This year, the Boy Scouts or BSA as they are now called, debuted their new theme for the 24th World Jamboree. That theme is “Unlock A New World.” And it seems that “New World” involves condoms. Yes, condoms.
The guidelines require that host organizations, who in this case include the former Boy Scouts of America (now Scouts BSA),
“… ensure that condoms are readily and easily accessible for all participants and IST [staff] at a number of locations on the site. Heads of Contingent must be informed in advance and made aware of their responsibility in communicating this policy to their Participants, Unit Leaders, Contingent Staff, and IST in an appropriate way.” (See Guideline 7.3 on page 10 of the document.) [Emphasis Added]
Yes, it’s in the actual guidelines. Specifically Guideline 7.3 on page 10.
It was just two weeks ago that the organization announced their name change. Needless to say, THAT wasn’t received well at all.
What is or was the motto for the Boy Scouts?
On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
I say was …because offering condoms to minors is definitely NOT an example of good morals.
What are the traits a Scout is supposed to exemplify?
TRUSTWORTHY. Tell the truth and keep promises. People can depend on you.
LOYAL. Show that you care about your family, friends, Scout leaders, school, and country.
HELPFUL. Volunteer to help others without expecting a reward.
FRIENDLY. Be a friend to everyone, even people who are very different from you.
COURTEOUS. Be polite to everyone and always use good manners.
KIND. Treat others as you want to be treated . Never harm or kill any living thing without good reason.
OBEDIENT. Follow the rules of your family, school, and pack. Obey the laws of your community and country.
CHEERFUL. Look for the bright side of life. Cheerfully do tasks that come your way. Try to help others be happy.
THRIFTY. Work to pay your own way. Try not to be wasteful. Use time, food, supplies, and natural resources wisely.
BRAVE. Face difficult situations even when you feel afraid. Do what you think is right despite what others might be doing or saying.
CLEAN. Keep your body and mind fit . Help keep your home and community clean.
REVERENT. Be reverent toward God. Be faithful in your religious duties. Respect the beliefs of others.
Will someone PLEASE tell me how condoms fit into any of this? The answer is, they don’t. Those who attend the Jamboree must be between the ages of 12-18. And with that, I know that sadly many will just shrug their shoulders and say – boys everywhere are sexually active now – it’s no big deal. Yes, it is a big deal.
First of all, the ethics and values of what was the Boy Scouts organization stood firm on the high ground of character, integrity, and morals.
This from John Stemberger with Trail Life USA:
“In light of the mandatory condom policy, it is not clear how far down the rabbit hole the Boy Scouts will continue to fall. With the addition of condoms and alcohol, the World Jamboree is starting to sound more like a 1960s Woodstock festival rather than a campout that parents would want to send their children to!
But now, it seems to be more about political correctness and virtue signaling as Kim wrote about here.
Who loses in all this? The young boys in the organization.

The Boy Scout experience sure has … expanded.
For those wanting to host the “World Scout Jamboree” make sure & check the bottom of para 7.3; “…must ensure that condoms are readily and easily accessible for all participants…”
Well done everyone.https://t.co/agUfRcPgNX

The @boyscouts should be ashamed.
Boy Scouts should not be soiled with such nonsense. https://t.co/4goK7DhPCI
As a former Arrow of Light recipient, I’m ashamed of where the BSA has gone.
The leadership has destroyed a once great organization.

Yes, the Boy Scout organization has lost their moral compass. The organization has abandoned that which made it great and and thrown onto the trash heap that which took boys and turned them into men of character, honor, and integrity. How sadly prescient that Marta wrote just yesterday about the Values we have lost.
This is NOT the kind of ‘new world’ we should be unlocking. This move by the Boy Scouts highlights another instance of how low we have fallen. I fear for this Republic, I fear for our young men and our future if this continues.
