The Marxist-Progressive War on the Boy Scouts

The title of this article will raise eyebrows even among conservatives, but read on. The title is accurate and undeniable.

The left has succeeded in driving a final nail in the coffin of the Boy Scouts as it once was. The organization is now a shell of its self. It capitulated first on “gay” scout leaders, then on “transgender” scouts, and now on girls joining the Boy Scouts.

Progressives bask in their triumph, dancing on the grave of an organization they never wanted to build up; it was an organization they wanted to take down. For the left, this is less about giving something to girls than taking something from boys. It’s another scalp on the cultural-ideological wall.

Lest anyone think this isn’t a take-down, or a fundamental transformation, well, consider that the Boy Scouts of America, founded in 1910, will now be called simply “Scouts BSA” for those ages 11 to 18 (a change openly celebrated with puffy propaganda pieces by PC-stylists at the BSA website). This is a coerced inclusion of gender-neutral “Cub Scouts.”

The Boy Scouts have been emasculated, neutered. The organization that prided itself on courage stands impotent, fearful in the face of feminists and LGBTQ militants. They’ve cowered to the forces of “diversity” and “tolerance.”

And for cultural revolutionaries, the defeat of the Boy Scouts is the end of a long march through yet another institution. This march began literally a century ago not with the New York Times or Democrats but with socialists and communists.

Surely that’s an exaggeration — a right-wing red herring? Grab the nearest liberal to howl accusations of Red-under-every-bed McCarthyism?

No doubt, the notion of a long communist assault against the Boy Scouts will surprise even many conservatives. The ugly truth, however, is that American communists have been after the Boy Scouts for over a century. Marxists were hellbent on taking down the Boy Scouts prior to even the Bolsheviks taking down czarist Russia. Once again, here as well, it just took the wider liberal left a little longer to eventually align with the Marxist left.

Boy Scouts Are Just Scouts Now, and That’s Making Girl Scouts Mad

As usual, no one gives a damn that boys’ literal identity was appropriated from them. Strike that – expropriated in the name of communism.

From Bloomberg:

Boy Scouts Are Just Scouts Now, and That’s Making Girl Scouts Mad

The 100-year-old organizations are prepared to take their battle over self-identity to court.

One evening in early February, in the back room of a small Lutheran church in Blacksburg, Va., seven girls joined the Boy Scouts. They stood in front of an American flag, wearing the same khaki shirts and bandanna neckties as the 19 boys there with them. Together they recited the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the traditional Boy Scout oath. As historic moments go, it was a quiet one.

Over the next hour, members of Blacksburg’s Troop 158 discussed a coming campout and held a physical fitness challenge that amounted to running a few laps around the church parking lot. The girls demonstrated the sled they intended to use in a multitroop race, while some boys debated whether an assault rifle would make a good weapon during a zombie apocalypse. (The consensus was yes.) “I like Boy Scouts so far,” said Amalie, who’s 13, when the meeting was over. “Sorry, I mean Scouts. We’re supposed to say the new name now.”

A week earlier, the Boy Scouts of America—the national organization that oversees various outdoors programs for about 2 million children, including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturing—had changed the name of its original, 109-year-old program to Scouts BSA. That made Amalie one of its first girl scouts. Not to be confused, of course, with the Girl Scouts—though Amalie said she’s one of those, too.

The process by which a male-only centenarian institution transforms itself into an inclusive, co-ed brand would be complicated under any circumstances, but for the Scouts it’s been doubly so. For decades—in fact, as recently as 2015—the organization had argued, in interviews and in court, that scouting was only for boys. And a lot of people associated with the Boy Scouts still agree with that.

“ ‘This is crazy! This is what’s wrong with America! Girls in the Boy Scouts? I mean for crying out loud!’ ” says Michael Surbaugh, the group’s chief scout executive, imitating angry emails and tweets he’s received. Conservative news outlets have run articles with headlines such as “The Boy Scouts Admit Girls, Failure” (Weekly Standard) and “Girls in Boy Scouts Is Bad for Everyone” (Washington Examiner). But strangely, the fieriest reaction has come from the group most famous for supporting young girls: Girl Scouts of the United States of America.

2015: Why Boy Scouts stance on gay leaders leaves it in limbo – CSM

Learn your history if you want to avoid the same failure next time around.

From the Christian Science Monitor:

The Boy Scouts have tried to strike a compromise on gay rights, but the continuing uproar from both sides shows how difficult that is.

The Boy Scouts of America were expected Monday to lift the group’s controversial ban on gay adult leaders, citing a changed legal landscape that no longer allows for such a ban.

At the same time, the group reaffirmed the right of local faith-based groups, many of which sponsor Boy Scout troops, to continue to set their own hiring policies.

It’s a compromise that, in the end, is likely to anger people on both sides of the gay-rights issue and that points to the difficulty for an organization like the Boy Scouts – which is increasingly tied with religious groups – that may try to stake out a middle ground on such a fraught issue.

“You’ve got a highly divided organization,” says Richard Ellis, a political science professor at Willamette University in Salem, Ore., and the author of “Judging the Boy Scouts of America.” “Now it’s not clear that even this solution, which is an attempt to get the [gay rights] issue out of the way, can do it, because nobody is happy with it.”

In some ways, the Boy Scouts are emblematic of the struggle that much of conservative America, and particularly conservative religious organizations, have had as they try to remain relevant, and compliant with the law, in a rapidly shifting legal landscape.

Teen Who Fought To Join Boy Scouts Attends State Of Union

This is nauseating. Bring on CW2 so we can end this hellish farce now and forever.

Teen Who Fought To Join Boy Scouts Attends State Of Union

BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — It’s been a big week for Bridgehampton’s Sydney Ireland. Not only did she see historic change she worked tirelessly to affect, kcome to fruition, as the Boy Scouts of America changed its name and allowed girls to join the organization — but on Tuesday, she’ll attend the State of the Union address.

Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney said she decided to bring Ireland, 17, as her guest, inspired by the teen’s efforts to create change.

“Sydney is a high school student who is already breaking barriers for girls and women. She successfully lobbied to join the Boy Scout Troops and is now fighting to be officially recognized as a member with a rank of Eagle Scout,” Maloney said.

Maloney pointed out that girls aged 5 to 10 were permitting into the Cub Scouts in Sept. 2018. And, as of Feb. 1, 2019, girls aged 11 to 17 are allowed into Boy Scouts, now called Scouts BSA.
“I’m so proud to take Sydney Ireland as my guest to the State of the Union,” said Maloney. “Sydney helped take down a century-old barrier to equality and she is now fighting to be the first woman to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. As those of us in Congress and across the country work to finally guarantee women’s equality in the Constitution by passing the Equal Rights Amendment, I take inspiration from Sydney’s story and am heartened to know that the next generation is ready, willing and able to do what it takes to secure the equality everyone deserves,” she said.
