The Growing Crisis in the Scout Movement

“But Scouts in [foreign land] is doing just fine. Meh!”

If you’ve heard it once you’ve heard it a hundred times. Like most things SJW it is a lie. And yes it’s usually doubled-down.

Here’s a discussion of the English destruction inflicted by their version of the “Improved Scouting Program” called the “Advance Party Report.”

Not surprisingly it had the exact same analysis, diagnosis and prescription for the Royal Boy Scouts: ditch the tradition, scrap the uniform, drop “Boy” from the name and open up to girls and younger children.

The result was an immediate and irrecoverable plummet in membership.

The growing crisis in the Scout movement.

By the Rev’d Michael Foster

(c) 2001

A Crisis in the Scout movement?
The fact that there are problems within Scouting can be evidenced from two factors. One; a loss in numbers, and two; the growing number of independent organisations, often of a traditionalist nature in reaction to changes designed to modernise scouting in an attempt to hold numbers.

It must be noted that the crisis of the scout movement in the west is not reflected universally. Other societies have not experienced social transformation at the same rate, or in the same direction. This means that the traditional image of the scout in these countries will continue to share a backdrop with its society at large. In other countries, the scout movement will be one of a relatively few agencies in the provision of youth work, as was true for Britain in the Edwardian period, and therefore not present a picture of decline.

The schisms in the Scout movement in the UK in the 1970s/1980s, and post 1980s overseas, although minor compared with the great scout schism of 1909-1911 (which created the first world Scout organisation led by Sir Francis Vane in opposition to Baden-Powell), emerged out of a need to come to terms with an essential problem that can be rehearsed as follows; “How does an organisation born in an age of imperialism and nationalism, with a society which was more monolithic, survive in a post-imperial age with a pluralistic society in the west and where each Country is but one community in a global village?”

Scholarly analysis of the Improved Scouting Program and Membership Decline

Here is an excerpt of a fascinating academic paper on Boy Scouts of America membership trends from its foundation through to publication. This section concerns the abject failure of SCOUTING/USA, SCOUT:B.S.A. and the Improved Scouting Program of 1971.

Written in 2016, Cartographic Depiction and Exploration of the Boy Scouts of America’s Historical Membership Patterns is a master’s thesis by University of Kansas graduate student Matthew Finn Hubbard.

The paper is well worth reading. It’s a quantitative analysis of BSA membership trends by geography over time. Hubbard’s main interest is “scout density” as a function of “available boys” or put another way, “What fraction of school-age boys are involved with the Boy Scouts of America” and how that fraction varied over the years.

He has a secondary interest in the contrast of rural and urban membership density. The insight is bolstered by factual discussion of related events and trends, such as the Great Depression (economic deprivation) and demographic disruptions (the Baby Boomers). He uses available membership data from counterpart organizations like Future Farmers of America and the Girls Scouts of the United States of America to differentiate membership fluctuations as a function of broad secular trends (i.e., market risk) and narrow BSA policy decisions (i.e., company risk).

England 2016: Girls now make up almost three-quarters of new Scouts

If you were an enemy of America and perhaps an enemy of Christ, how would you destroy your only real opponent, the Straight White Christian Man?

Why, you can’t. He is invincible.

Unless you destroy him while still a boy.

2016: Girls now make up almost three-quarters of new Scouts

Kate said: “Most people think scouting’s for boys, but that’s not the case any more. Everyone is friendly and treats each other the same. Sometimes people think girls just like girly things, but we love doing a whole range of things.”

#FakeScouts Canada

This is a follow on to the last post, Coed Membership Failure: SCOUTS/CANADA.

Not only will Scouts/Canada not exist in a few short years, it’s not even actual scouting boy or otherwise.

Get a load of their watered down, meaningless and wholly converged “Scout Promise” and “Law.” It’s laughable if you can keep from weeping:

The Scout Promise

On my honour;
I promise that I will do my best;
To do my duty to God and the Queen;
To help other people at all times;
and to carry out the spirit of the Scout Law.

The Scout Law

A Scout is helpful and trustworthy,
Kind and cheerful,
Considerate and clean,
and Wise in the use of all resources.

No wonder Canadian boys will have nothing to do with unsexed “scouting.” Soon their North American cousins will join them.

Coed Membership Failure: SCOUTS/CANADA

If I’ve heard it once I’ve heard it a hundred times.

“Yeah but the whole rest of the world’s scouts are coed and they’re doing just fine. Huah.”

Except, not.

If the 35 year trend holds, there won’t be a SCOUTS/CANADA in five years.

Harvard sorority disbands over punitive “single gender” policy

First of all, people have “sex.” Words have “gender.”

Sex comes in male and female. Gender, a grammatical term is whatever you need it to be.

Secondly, it appears the War on Boys is accompanied by a War on Girls as Harvard punishes members of Greek letter societies, banning them from leadership in university recognized clubs and refusing to consider them for fellowships.

Harvard, founded to form Yankee America’s clergymen, was single-sex for most of its storied existence. Co-eds were forced on Harvard in 1977 by second wave  feminists. To be fair, the school abandoned its Christianity by the end of the 19th C. It’s been riding on fumes, moving only for the momentum of its social capital and goodwill among the old New England families.

Boy Scouts pay attention to this story. This is the future for your beloved institution! First girls are imposed on you but your right to avoid them is tolerated. Eventually, forced-integration is imposed by force. You either like it or lump it. Actually, I’ve heard that from more than one thick-skulled employee of the Boy Scouts of America corporation.

I wonder if they are Harvard men.

Lulz.

From the Harvard Crimson propaganda organ:

Delta Gamma Becomes First Social Group to Close in Response to Sanctions

Harvard’s chapter of the Delta Gamma sorority is closing its doors — making it the first single-gender group to shut down in response to the College’s social group penalties.

The national Delta Gamma organization announced the move in a press release Thursday and explicitly cited the sanctions as the impetus for the decision.

The College’s policy, which took effect with the Class of 2021, bars members of single-gender final clubs, fraternities, and sororities from holding leadership positions in recognized student groups, captaining varsity athletic teams, and receiving College endorsement for a number of prestigious fellowships.

“We respect the chapter’s decision and understand that the University’s sanctions resulted in an environment in which Delta Gamma could not thrive,” Wilma Johnson Wilbanks, Delta Gamma’s national president, wrote in a press release. “We sincerely hope this changes in the future.”
