BSA Corp bankruptcy imminent

From the New York Post

A bankruptcy filing that could spell the end of the Boy Scouts of America is “imminent,” sources told The Post.

Crippled by thousands of child sex-abuse claims in multiple states — and with more victims coming forward every day — the bankruptcy case could reach into the “billions,” said one lawyer who represents 1,800 men who allege they were molested as scouts.

The filing, expected in Delaware, could come any day or in the next couple of weeks, sources said.

“It’s going to be a mess. If it takes a long period of time, it’s an open question whether the Boy Scouts will have any resources to keep operating while the bankruptcy is pending,” said attorney Tim Kosnoff.

Any bankruptcy by the Boy Scouts would be “historic” given the breadth of the organization. It is active in every state and territory, and has seen millions of boys move through its ranks since its inception more than a century ago. The group kept files on thousands of abuse allegations made against leaders since 1944.

“It would really be a day of reckoning for the Boy Scouts, in terms of the decisions they have to make,” said attorney Michael Pfau, who reps 300 alleged Boy Scout sex abuse victims. “Anyone still alive may be a potential victim.”

Kosnoff’s oldest client is a 93-year-old man, and a couple dozen others are over 80, he said.

“It’s kind of jaw-dropping when you realize this person has lived with this for so long,” Kosnoff said.

“No decisions have been made and we continue to fully meet our financial obligations to our vendors, creditors and other stakeholders,” the Boy Scouts said in a statement.

The group is “exploring all options available” to pay victims and continue their work, the statement added.

The Boy Scouts have struggled with declining membership and rising costs. The group has $1.4 billion in assets according to its 2018 tax filing, and would also have to publicize the bankruptcy to reach as many victims as possible, the lawyers said.

The case will pull back the curtain on the nonprofit’s financial health, forcing it to reveal how many assets it has, and how those assets are leveraged, said Indiana University Professor Pamela Foohey, who studies nonprofit bankruptcies.

The national Boy Scouts organization is devising a bankruptcy survival strategy that would allow it to pay victims while shielding the hefty assets owned by hundreds of local councils — an estimated $3 billion worth, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

New Sex Abuse Allegations Surface Against Boy Scouts Of America

April 23, 2019 – 10:20 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Stunning new allegations of child sex abuse have surfaced against the Boy Scouts of America.

Attorneys for alleged victims say there is a pattern of abuse involving 7,000 Boy Scout leaders nationwide dating back to the 1940s. The leaders were named in the Boy Scouts of America “Perversion Files,” lawyers said. They call it a system of denial and cover ups.

The Boy Scouts of America issued a statement saying that they “care deeply about all victims of child sex abuse and sincerely apologize to anyone who was harmed during their time scouting.”

The organization says they are “outraged” that abusers have taken advantage of scouting programs to abuse children.

Lawyers planning to file multiple lawsuits on behalf of the alleged victims will hold separate news conferences in Newark and Manhattan on Tuesday.

They plan to release the names of 50 leaders in New Jersey and 130 in New York who allegedly abused children.

Thousands of Boy Scouts of America leaders face new charges of sexual abuse, claims that are expected to be revealed in detail Tuesday in New York and New Jersey. Names of nearly 200 of the accused are also expected to be released.

The allegations came to light Monday night and a group of alleged victims was expected to testify about the widespread pattern abuse within the scouting organization later Tuesday.

The victims’ attorney, Jeff Anderson, called it a system of denial and cover-ups. He claims the Boy Scouts have files on child abusers within their ranks dating back to the 1940s.

“The lives of the survivors and their families have been shattered and destroyed in so many ways,” Anderson said. He says the new allegations accuse more than 7,000 leaders of abuse, with more than 100 in New York.

Interest in Alternative “Traditional Christian” Boy Scouts Skyrockets

Over the years, the Boy Scouts of America has been making steps to become more “accepting” and “inclusive” — at the risk to its traditional values.

In 2013, the organization allowed members to identify as gay, then a couple of years later, the group welcomed gay leaders. And beginning this year, “transgender” scouts — girls who pretend they’re boys — were allowed to join the once all-male group.

Not everyone has viewed these changes as positive. A new group that recognizes the traditional values that the Boys Scouts left behind is gaining popularity because of the BSA’s shift to serve a liberal agenda.

Trail Life USA, which focuses on “traditional Christian values” already has more than 20,000 members across the country.

Boy Scouts On Verge Of Bankruptcy

The Boy Scouts of America is considering declaring bankruptcy, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

The Wednesday report comes in the wake of sinking membership and multiple controversies surrounding the 108-year-old organization, including sex abuse allegations and its controversial decision to change its program name from Boy Scouts to Scouts BSA and allow girls into that program.

Chicago law firm Sidley Austin has reportedly been hired to assist in what would be a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

As the organization has made decisions deemed to be more inclusive, such as allowing openly gay scouts in 2013 and scoutmasters in 2015 as well as the 2018 decision to allow girls, membership has continued to decline sharply, from over 4 million members at its peak to a claimed 2.3 million members at present.

Those numbers will likely continue to decline. Earlier this year, the Mormon church announced the end of a long-standing partnership with the Boy Scouts and the formation of its own program for boys beginning in 2020, a move that could cost the organization almost a third of its members. The church was reportedly “deeply troubled” by the group’s decision to allow openly gay leaders. (RELATED: The Scouts’ Inclusion Of Girls Is A DISASTER For Both Boys And Girls)

Additionally, the Boy Scouts have come under criticism of late for keeping records of sex abuse perpetrated by scoutmasters — called the “perversion files” — under wraps for decades instead of revealing them to the public.

Mike Roe wrote in May of the “death of the Boy Scouts of America.”

In my opinion, this kind of attrition can only explained by an increasing lack of relevance, or, the perception of irrelevance. Right now, there’s a perception that The Boy Scouts have gone soft. That’s the real tragedy, Sharon, because I can’t think of anything more needed in our country today, than a youth organization that offers kids the same experience I underwent in the basement of Kenwood Church. Why? Because our country’s current obsession with ‘safe spaces’ is destroying character faster than the Boy Scouts of today can build it.

James Woods Uses Ocasio-Cortez’s Own Words Against Her To Trash All-Inclusive Boy Scouts

The article’s author asks a great question, after reporting James Woods’ brilliant skewering of the BSA Inc faggotry,

By changing the name of the Boy Scouts and allowing girls in, there’s the tacit acknowledgement that an all-boys organization is patriarchal and an all-girls organization is empowering. The logic here eludes me but I’m sure a lecture on intersectionality and histories of oppression would straighten me out nicely.

As you may have heard, as of this year, the Boy Scouts are no longer the “Boy Scouts.”

“The Boy Scouts of America, in its continued effort to appeal to girls, announced on Wednesday that it would drop the ‘boy’ from its namesake program next February. The century-old organization also said that it would start welcoming older girls, opening a door for them to earn the organization’s highest rank of Eagle Scout,” The New York Times reported in May.

The new organization celebrated the change with a campaign called “Scout Me In,” which, according to a statement from the organization, “celebrates the BSA’s expansion to serve families and welcome girls and boys into Scouting in communities across the country.”

“It reinforces that the mission and core values in the Scout Oath and Scout Law are welcoming, inclusive and foundational for both young men and women.”

“As we enter a new era for our organization, it is important that all youth can see themselves in Scouting in every way possible. That is why it is important that the name for our Scouting program for older youth remain consistent with the single name approach used for the Cub Scouts,” Michael Surbaugh, chief scout executive of the Boy Scouts of America, said in the statement.

“Starting in February 2019, the name of the older youth program will be ‘Scouts BSA,’ and the name of our iconic organization will continue to be Boy Scouts of America.”

Sound confusing enough to you? Well, um, scout me in! Last I checked, there was a similar program called the Girl Scouts which did all of these things for young women.

And, in fact, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, currently one of the country’s most famous members of Congress, was a part of it.

New Boy Scouts of America rule raises questions and mixed reactions

From InklingsNews come many obvious questions never answered – or admitted – by B.S.A. Inc.

State senator, Will Haskell, poses with part of Troop 19, that consists of girls officially joining Scouts of America. The new rule that went into effect Feb. 1, now allows girls between 11 and 17 to join what was formerly known as Boy Scouts of America.

Eliza Barr ’21, Staff Writer

As of Feb. 1, girls can join the troops of formerly named-Boy Scouts of America following a gender inclusive decision made by the organization in October 2017.

Previously, Girl Scouts were widely recognized to do activities such as sell cookies and other crafts whereas boys might typically do camping trips and knot tying. However, girls interested in things generally done by boys are now able to join the renamed “Scouts of America.” A statement issued by Scouts of America says there was a large demand in the years leading up to the change.

Staples high schooler and longtime Boy Scout member, Justin Schmidt ’19 feels that something was odd about the decision. “I believe that letting girls join Boy Scouts is a very sudden shift in culture within the Scouting community,” Schmidt said. “I would have rather seen a shift in the Girl Scout curriculum– seeing that this is the biggest part of the debate–than just integrating two entirely different cultures.”

New York president of The National Organization for Women, Sonia Ossorio, has been demanding this change for years now.
