Fox news asks Tony Perkins if churches should dump Boy Scouts because, with the trashing of “Boy” from their name, they are not worth supporting. A squishy soiboy named Hale blabbers about boys learning to be men from little girls. Well, it might have been true with him.
Is the photo real? The pink troop lettering looks fake. The spiral has a shadow, easily added in Photoshop. Anyone can post on Twitter. But the fact we’re asking is an indication of the destroyed integrity of BSA Corp.
Act Up! scores a direct hit. BSA Inc takes another blow to its prestige, its credibility, and its reason to exist.
First of all, people have “sex.” Words have “gender.”
Sex comes in male and female. Gender, a grammatical term is whatever you need it to be.
Secondly, it appears the War on Boys is accompanied by a War on Girls as Harvard punishes members of Greek letter societies, banning them from leadership in university recognized clubs and refusing to consider them for fellowships.
Harvard, founded to form Yankee America’s clergymen, was single-sex for most of its storied existence. Co-eds were forced on Harvard in 1977 by second wave feminists. To be fair, the school abandoned its Christianity by the end of the 19th C. It’s been riding on fumes, moving only for the momentum of its social capital and goodwill among the old New England families.
Boy Scouts pay attention to this story. This is the future for your beloved institution! First girls are imposed on you but your right to avoid them is tolerated. Eventually, forced-integration is imposed by force. You either like it or lump it. Actually, I’ve heard that from more than one thick-skulled employee of the Boy Scouts of America corporation.
Harvard’s chapter of the Delta Gamma sorority is closing its doors — making it the first single-gender group to shut down in response to the College’s social group penalties.
The national Delta Gamma organization announced the move in a press release Thursday and explicitly cited the sanctions as the impetus for the decision.
The College’s policy, which took effect with the Class of 2021, bars members of single-gender final clubs, fraternities, and sororities from holding leadership positions in recognized student groups, captaining varsity athletic teams, and receiving College endorsement for a number of prestigious fellowships.
“We respect the chapter’s decision and understand that the University’s sanctions resulted in an environment in which Delta Gamma could not thrive,” Wilma Johnson Wilbanks, Delta Gamma’s national president, wrote in a press release. “We sincerely hope this changes in the future.”
SJWs use a standard playbook in their destruction of our society including their recent take-down of the Boy Scouts Incorporated. They aren’t especially creative and they are not smart — just persistent.
This article describes a generalized framework learned from #GamerGate which defeated the SJW attack and eventually led to popularization of “meme warfare” as used during the Trump campaign.
Those who made a formal study of communist history and methods will recognize it as an application of Gramscianism, the Long March through the Institutions. It is not as violent as Alinskism but it attracts dogooders eager to prove their validity to academics and media gatekeepers. This is the source of its power.
But, this will probably always be a work in progress as SJW tactics shift and change, so I still invite and encourage suggestions, insight, criticism, debate, and feedback of all kinds from others.
Again, I want to stress, that my primary interest is in film and television. So others that are more deeply involved in comics, novelizations, video games, board games, role playing games, card games, etc., may have additional insight.
To understand the Charlie Foxtrot that is Boy Scouts Company Inc., one must understand the mind of the self-absorbed and useless Baby Boomers that have run the corporation for thirty years.
Here is an article from 2000 — practically in another era of history — that mentions the Boy Scouts in passing as one example of proof American society was not declining at all. It was merely unfairly judged.
Today, we call people like the author “cucks” after the infamous cuckoo bird that tricks other breeds into raising its young after murdering their biological children. If that does not describe the BSA Corporation, What does?
To begin with, his statistics frequently exaggerate the degree of decline over the years. Thus, rather than comparing the actual memberships of the PTA or the Boy Scouts in 1960 to their actual memberships today, he adjusts the figures to take into account the proportion of eligible boys or parents in a much larger pool. If an association’s growth has not kept pace with the relevant population, he deems it to have “lost” members—even if it has gained. This, to my mind, is a stretch.
Last year, Americans donated over $190 billion to charity, gave roughly 20 billion hours of their time as volunteers, and participated in nearly 2 million tax-exempt organizations, not to mention the still greater number of less formal groups through which they performed an astonishing range of public-spirited works. Indeed, except for a minor dip in the early 1990’s, Americans have been giving and volunteering at an ever-increasing rate for over twenty years.
Yet despite this apparent vitality, all is far from well with civil society in America—or at least so argues the Harvard political scientist Robert D. Putnam in his much-talked-about new book, Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community1 By Putnam’s lights, the United States is in fact suffering from a severe breakdown of civic and social ties, a development that is partly responsible not only for the public’s heightened mistrust of government but even for the growing incidence of depression and suicide. Nor is this withdrawal from civic engagement something new: with the exception of older Americans, Putnam claims, it has been going on for more than 30 years.
How can two such different pictures be reconciled?
The progressive left is working to overcome what it perceives as the out-of-date premises of the Judeo-Christian ethic previously reflected in scouting.
When I was a child growing up in a traditional Jewish home in Jersey City, New Jersey, my parents enrolled me in the Cub Scouts, an organization whose goals included developing moral character, physical fitness, spiritual growth, and practical skills, along with providing opportunities for service to humanity. I quickly advanced through the various badges: Wolf, Bear, Lion, and Webelos. Thereafter I joined Troop 56 at the Jewish Community Center in Jersey City where I became an Eagle Scout, a Brotherhood member of the honorary Order of the Arrow, and served in several troop leadership positions.
As someone steeped in scouting as a youth, I am distressed over what I now perceive as the ongoing demise of the institution of scouting and the traditional moral values for which it stood, as articulated in the Scout Oath and the Scout Law.
